One of the best things about living in Ipoh: Almost everybody is as cheapskate as I am.
Saya tinggal di kawasan perumahan Cina. Ada beratus-ratus kediaman, tapi keluarga Melayu cuma ada tiga. Kedai-kedai kebanyakannya milik orang Cina. Dah berpuluh tahun berniaga. Most of them are friendly and kind.
Bila kita nak beli produk atau servis mereka, mereka selalu beri pilihan yang murah dulu atau beri cadangan yang lebih menjimatkan. Mereka mungkin lapar, tapi mereka tak laparkan duit kita. This still surprises me though I've been here for 3 months now. They act as a family/friend before acting as businessmen. Today is another example.
"Zaman sekarang susah cari makan, adik. Jangan membazir buat baru, nanti kena beratus. Kesian bisnes adik. Kita repair saja signage lama ni. Saya pun boleh kasi murah."
